Obituary of Eliza Matthews

The family of Eliza A. Matthews, with great regret, wishes to announce her passing at Windermere Care Home, Vancouver, BC on August 23, 2010. Born on June 8, 1918 in Boiestown, NB, she was the daughter of the late John Whalen and the late Grace (Norrad) Whalen O’Connor. She was a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Campbellton, St. Dunstan’s Parish in Fredericton and a retired Provincial Civil Servant. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Matthews (Ron Pepper) of Vancouver, BC; her son, William Joseph Matthews (Tina) of Fredericton, NB; four granddaughters, Jenny Pepper of Vancouver, Lisa Matthews (Geordie Haley) of Halifax, Leslie Matthews of Halifax and Amy Matthews (Eric Torunski) of Ottawa; three great grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Torunski of Ottawa and Georgia Haley of Halifax; sister, Mary O’Connor (Art) of Fredericton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Eliza was predeceased by her brothers, Lloyd and Joseph Whalen; her sister, Elaine Carr and sister-in-law, Patricia Whalen. At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation. A private celebration Mass of her life will be held for the family at St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, Boiestown, NB. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Forever Fund (the endowment fund of the Fredericton United Way) or St. Joachim’s Parish, Boiestown.
