Obituary of Herbert Schwartz

Life Legacy Herbert Roy Schwartz passed away at the DECRH on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at age 95. Herb was born in Woodlands, NB on July 7, 1924, son of the late Amos J. and Annie (Fowler) Schwartz. Survived by sons, Roger (Susan) and Douglas (Louise); daughters, Charlotte (Graydon) Cook and Marilyn (Bill) Conley; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, John; sisters, Eva Logan, Francis McFadzen, Faye Thomas and Helen Bartlett; sister-in-law, Doris Pinnock; many nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jessie (Sherwood); brother, Walter; sisters, Evelyn Schwartz and Mavis Stickles. Dad was a local building contractor for more than thirty years and he took great pride in his accomplishments. He valued his many customers and he built many homes in the Fredericton region. He worked with wood for almost eighty years, from his early days in lumber camps to sawmills to home construction to fine furniture. Along the way, he learned the art of business. Dad was a farmer at heart, enjoying his garden on Sunset Drive and (in retirement) the homestead farm in Woodlands. In recent years, he stayed close to home, yet he always enjoyed his weekly trips to the North Side Market and to Church on Sunday morning. He loved visits from family and friends. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (Nashwaaksis). With the help of dedicated caregivers and good neighbours, Herb was able to live in the family home until very recently, and for that we are very grateful. Visitation will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 75 Main Street, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 2-6 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Paul Ranson officiating. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the St. John the Evangelist Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
