Obituary of Neeltje Bakelaar

Life Legacy Nelleke Bakelaar (Neeltje van der Maas) – 54, Campbell Settlement, NB, wife of Maarten Bakelaar, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, September 25, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 26, 1964 in the Netherlands. She is a daughter of Frans van der Maas and the late Allegonda (Kooiman) van der Maas. In addition to her father and husband, Nelleke is survived by her children, Klaas (Doriene), Anneke (Johan), Elizabeth; grandchildren, Jordy, Daan, Jantje, Lotte, Dani, Sissi, Kaitlyn; brothers and sisters, Janneke (Leo) van der Maas, Arien (Tineke), Martin (Laura), Annemiek (André) Duijzer, Sjaak (Carla), Wim (Laura), Frans (Arenda), Wilma (Berth) van der Schoor, Leo (Jolanda), Gonda (Marc) Dekenah, Maris (Angelique), André (Nelleke). Nelleke was born in The Hague, the Netherlands and moved to Kortgene with her family at the age of 4. She met and married Maarten 37 years ago and together they moved to Germany where they lived for 6 years. They moved to Zeewolde, the Netherlands where they lived for 11 years. Nelleke enjoyed sewing for other people and had her own shop for a while until they moved to Wilp Achterhoek. There she was diagnosed with Leukemia for the first time 17 years ago at the age of 37. She recovered and for years she enjoyed working on a farm where they processed milk, cheese and all other dairy products. In 2012 they moved to Canada where Nelleke was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Fredericton. Nelleke was known for her love for music and her garden. She enjoyed working with people in need for Personal support. She was diagnosed for a second time with leukemia in 2014. Her family would like to acknowledge the amazing support of Dr. Mary-Ann Bramstrup, Dr. Hasegawa and Jo-Ann Edwards of the Hematology department in Halifax and the care of the ICU team and Dr. Aslam from the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. The family also would like to express their deepest appreciation for everyone of you who supported Nelleke and her family during this time, thank you for caring. Visitation will take place from 6-8PM on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church, 121 McAdam Avenue. A Thanksgiving service for the life of Nelleke will be held 2PM, September 29, 2019 at the church with Pastor Dan Hoogland officiating. Reception will follow. For those who wish to make a donation in Nelleke’s memory, the family suggests the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or the Christian Reformed Church.
