Life Legacy
Passed away peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, surrounded by her family. Loving mother of Marilyn, John, Robert (Margaret), Kenneth (Barbara) and Charles (Catherine); proud grandmother of Sean (Lauren), Jan (CJ), Christa (Jon), Alexandra (TJ), Peter, Michael, Geoffrey (Diane), Craig (Emily), Robin, Sabrina and Mary; great-grandmother to Francesco, Georgia, Ewan, Elizabeth, Elliot, Haley, Tristan, Eli, Brody, Riley and Reese. Predeceased by husband Chris; parents, Herbert and Eleanor Salter; brother, John (Joan) and sister, Judith (John); fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born in England on May 15, 1924; she married a Canadian soldier and arrived in Bathurst, NB in 1944 to stay with her husband's family. After the War they settled in Bathurst, moving to Marysville in 1957. She worked part time for several years, then started her career at DND at Base Gagetown, retiring after many years of service.
She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary (Royal Canadian Legion), NB War Brides Assoc., I.O.D.E., St. George's Society and All Saints Anglican Church (Marysville). An original member of the Fredericton Singing War Brides, she performed in shows around the province. Her many other interests, included theatre, classical music, and dancing. She loved reading and spent a lot of time browsing the aisles of the public library.
Mary loved her home and garden, creating a loving and welcoming space for family and friends. She was a kind and loving soul who never had a bad word to say about anybody. She was a cherished mother, grandmother and friend who gave so much to others. We were so blessed to have her with us for so long, and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB from 4-8 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at All Saints Anglican Church, 169 Canada Street, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 2 pm with the Interment in the cemetery; followed by a reception in the church. Donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church (Marysville), New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
