Obituary of Frederick Trites
Fred was born in Halifax, NS on August 18, 1942 he passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Fred lived in Cape Breton until the age of five, then with his parents and sister moved to Campbellton, NB. Where he attended school, he carried on to Horton Academy, Wolfville, NS, United Baptist Bible Training School, Moncton Institute and Francais Evangelic, Montreal. He was employed by the Campbellton Tribune, Campbellton Graphic, CKCD TV, CKNB Radio and the Dalhousie Tribune. While in Campbellton he started the Boys Club, under the auspices of The Boys Club of Canada. Fred travelled to many countries and while in the Middle East he wrote for the Jerusalem Times. Fred also was the President of the Campbellton Jaycees. He taught at the Fredericton Business College and was also elected to the School Board District #18. Then in January 1966, he accepted a position with the Daily Gleaner and in February of that year he married Joan Arpin and has been married for 53 years. He has two children, Todd (wife Bonnie) of Upper Gagetown and Lisa Dawn (husband Detective Inspector Henry) of Turnbridge Wells, England; three grandchildren, James Lindsley of England, Brandan of Fredericton and Willow Hope of Upper Gagetown; sister, Beverley-Dawn Richardson (Grant) of Kentville, NS.
He was the President of the Fredericton Jaycees in 1968 and involved the Jaycees and the Fredericton Police in organizing the Fredericton Boys Club. In 1971 he accepted the position as the First Assistant Manager of the newly constructed McDonalds Restaurant and in 1972 he joined the sales team of Manufactures Life, where he stayed until he retired in 2003. While with Manufacturers Life, Fred was appointed Commissioner of Oaths which he held for over 40 years, until his death. Fred was once chairman of the United Way, member of the Board of School Trustees for District #18, taught at the Fredericton Business College, President of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and was appointed as a Lifetime Member of the International Jaycee Senate No #19604. Fred was an active member of the Fredericton Church of the Nazarene for over 35 years.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 12-2 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 pm with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers, Fred’s family has requested donations to a charity of the donor’s choice.
