Obituary of Gladys Kierstead

Gladys Winnifred Kierstead "Winnie" passed into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord on June 26, 2019 at Windsor Court Retirement Home, Fredericton, NB. Winnie was born in London, England on December 24, 1922, daughter of the late John Lloyd and Elsie Green. She met and married Wallace Bishop, a Canadian soldier stationed there during WWII. She moved to Canada with two young children in early April 1945 just before the war ended. They would add four more children to their family in the years to follow. A devout Christian, Winnie was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance, Evangel Pentecostal Assembly and the Cross Current Community Church. She was involved in many Christian movements throughout her life including 100 Huntley Street, Lydia Fellowship, and Right to Life. She is survived by her children, Anne Simons of Fredericton, NB, Garry Bishop (Sharon) of London, ON, Dawn Sharpe of Maugerville, NB, and John Bishop (Colleen) of Cranbrook, BC, step-sons David (Debra) and Michael (Kim) Kierstead of Fredericton, NB; eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by husbands, Wallace Bishop, Gerald Waddelow and Claude Kierstead; daughters, Joyce and Valerie Bishop and step-daughter, Joanne Nason. Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 7-9 pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 6 pm at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jerome MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the SPCA, Gideons International or the Cross Current Community Church.
