Blair Hovey

Obituary of Blair Hovey

Blair Walter (Papa) Hovey, loving husband of Cathy (Price) Hovey passed away suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2019. Born in Fredericton, NB on April 16, 1955 he was the son of the late Oscar and Winnifred Hovey. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Cathy; his most cherished daughter, Carrie Dawn (Rob) Anslow; his eight grandchildren who he loved dearly; Nathaniel, Isaiah, Sonita Marie, Laura May, Alissa, Samuel, Joseph and Joshua; sister, Donna (Gerald) Ward; brothers, Ronnie (Trish) Hovey, Dale (Shirley) Hovey, Bobby (Bonnie) Hovey; and much loved nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother, Jerry. Blair was a caring and loving husband, father and Papa. His booming laugh and big bear hugs will be greatly missed. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved being at his camp on the Miramichi, where he was so in tune with the river and land around him there. He often fished the waters and walked or four-wheeled his land. Blair had so many things he enjoyed doing, almost too numerous to mention, such as feeding the birds at his camp, picking fiddleheads, smoking the fish he caught, making sausage from his hunts, baking bread, preserving from his garden and cutting his winter wood. Blair enjoyed playing basketball and was an avid Raptors fan. He so enjoyed his Tuesday morning Bible Study/coffee group as well as visits with his numerous friends, whether at his camp or during visits to Saskatoon. He often said “I’m living the dream.” But most of all Papa loved being with his grandchildren, hugging them, teasing them and making up stories to tell them. A private celebration of life will be held at the Atlantic Salmon Museum, Doaktown, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
