Obituary of Charles Sutherland

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charles “Charlie” William Sutherland announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at York Care Centre, with his family by his side. Charlie was born in Truro, NS on February 4, 1934 to the late John and Vernie “Connley” Sutherland. At the age of 21, Charlie joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was posted at Base Gagetown, Oromocto, NB, where he served as a gunner for 10 years. Upon retiring from the military, Charlie went to work at Atlantic Wholesalers for 25 years. After retiring from Atlantic Wholesalers, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. Charlie was a long time member of the Legion Branch #4, Fredericton and the Fish and Game Association. He was a proud member of the Keswick United Baptist Church for many years and had a great love for the church and the people who surrounded him there. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Juanita Gilbert (Raymond) of Grande- Digue, NB; son, Kevin Sutherland (Sue-Anne) of Bruderheim, AB; step-children, Rusty McArthur (Beverly), Marlene Pieroway and Treena Hetherington all of Fredericton, NB; brother, Ronnie Sutherland (Linda) of Belmont, NS; and many loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and very special nieces, Bonnie Tabor and Judy Boyd. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife, Alice; second wife, Shirley; fianceé, Irma; sons, Garnet and Anthony; grandson, Damien; brother, Bobby; sisters, Doreen and Sylvia “Toby”. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 1-3 pm with a Memorial Service will follow in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel at 3 pm with Pastor Normand McDonald. Interment will be in Keswick Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to York Care Foundation. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the wonderful staff at York Care Centre, Tower 3, who gave so much of themselves to make Dad’s life comfortable and happy in the time he was there.
