Obituary of Betty Porter
The passing of Betty Irene Porter formerly of Maple Grove, NB, wife of the late Charles Porter occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at York Care Centre. Born on April 6, 1928 in Bournemouth, England, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Doris (Jones) Anstey. Betty was a War Bride coming to Canada in 1946 on Aquitania Ship, at the age of 19. She was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #80 Nashwaak Bridge; she was also a member of Hillcrest United Church. Betty enjoyed travelling with Charles to golf on many courses, over 25 years.
Betty is survived by her children, Linda Steeves, Stephen Porter (Edith), Brenda Porter (Richard) and Michael “Darrell” Porter (Agnes); grandchildren, Jason Steeves (Tara), Tanya Deap (Rob), Stephanie Parker (Tom), Scott Porter, Nathan Porter (America), Eric Porter (Annette), Bonita Arbeau (Matt) and Sabrina Porter; numerous great and great great grandchildren; sister, Joan Dear; sisters in law, Frances Porter and Eileen Anstey. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her brother, Bill Anstey.
A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2 pm with Pastor Gordon Mowry officiating. Interment will take place in Hillcrest United Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation.
