Russell (Russ) William Atchison passed away the morning of April 8, 2019. Russ had just turned 89 on March 29th of this year. Russ was born in Sanford, Manitoba, and is the son of William Atchison (born in Sanford, Man.) and Williamina (Mina) Mill (born in Dundee, Scotland). Russ was married to Valerie just over 51 years. Russ was the step-father to Dennis Atchison (Elizabeth). He was grandfather to twin grandsons Kip (Erin) and Miles Atchison, and great grandfather to Freya and Athena. He was predeceased by his siblings Ivy, Dean and Sandra. He has an extensive extended family: niece Linda (Ernie), nephew Bill (Tannis, children Clay and Reid), niece Tracey (children Tyler and Erin); nephew Danny, niece Janine (Rob, children Natasha, Neil), nephew Ian (children Liam and Gavin). Russ' professional career took him from Winnipeg to Montreal to Cowansville, Que and back to Winnipeg over a 25 year period. He worked in the plastic film industry first with PolyBag and then for Union Carbide as a manager and as a regional sales rep for Western Canada. In 1989 Russ and Val moved to Fredericton to be closer to son Dennis. In Fredericton Russ sold Rusco products, bartended at the Capital Winter Club, and shuttled cars. He loved curling and golf, and making his own wine. He loved to tease and make people laugh. Russ was an active member of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club, and proud recipient of the Melvin Jones Award from his peers. He made many close and great friends amongst the Lions members. He will be missed and continue to be loved by all of us. Many thanks to all who were part of his journey. Love you Granpop. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nashwaaksis Lions Club to help with their community work. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T.
