I had the pleasure of being taught math by Mr. Lyons in grade 11 at OHS. He helped me gain so much confidence that year and I did quite well. I knew I would pass so I didn’t try on my last test, after he gently told me he was a bit surprised I didn’t do well because I could have been exempt from the final exam. It was a great lesson that I never forgot. I will also miss his little smiles when he found something we did amusing. My deepest condolences to his family.

Loyal. Dependable. Trustworthy. Faithful. Selfless. Loving. Man of God.
Phil Lyons was one of the greatest men to ever walk this earth. I had the Divine honour of calling him my Grand-dad (extended family). Words cannot describe what this man means to me, our family, and how he changed the world around him for the better. Phil lived his life as a testament for Christ, and wasn't afraid to share the Gospel of Love, Salvation, and Eternal happiness wherever, whenever. Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories of Phil, it helps us reflect on what a great man he was.

It was by chance that I met Mr. Lyons. While at a nearby park, my sister, daughter, and I came upon him after he had taken a fall down the stairs. The ambulance was called and he was whisked away. He left a powerful impression on us so we followed up by visiting him at the hospital. Even in his wounded stated, his prayer book was at his side. He joked about this being a stumble that might "slow him down" for a bit. I had no idea how active a man he was on a daily basis so a hospital stay for several months would certainly cramp his style. Some time later our paths crossed again when I learned that he had been joining my aunt and uncle at Tim Horton's on Sundays. What a small world! I met up with him again and introduced myself. He called me his angel. What a wonderful man. He was a pleasure to know even if only for a short while.

Hoping that in due time your family receives solace from the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort. He promised that in the Paradise life will be a delight, more than we can imagine. (Revelation 21:4) Until then, trust that Jehovah God heals the brokenhearted and he binds up their wounds. Wishing you the strength you need in the days ahead.

I was so surprise to see Phil's obituary. I am so used to meeting him at church functions and around town that I thought he would always be here. I remember your family from our shared years at St James the Greater in Ludlow and a more devout group I may never meet. Please know you are being remembered during these days as Phil rejoices in Heaven.

So very sorry to hear of this sweet mans passing. In my many times of serving him at a Sobeys, he always had a story, bit of wisdom or gospel truth to share, including his quote of the day. I truly looked for him to share that with me and most days it was a blessing and encouragement. Blessings to the family at this time.

Dear family of Phil, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I work at Tim Horton's on Smythe Street. I had the pleasure of serving him nearly every morning, and really enjoyed our chats. Since Christmas, he has been bringing me my favorite chocolate Ovations, slipping me a few over the counter. Those little chocolates got me through some stressful times. I am sad to not make his tea and coffee just right anymore, but carry wonderful memories of a wonderful man. May God comfort you in this difficult time.

Dear Lyons Family...I was a student of Mr. Lyons 40 years ago at OHS and he truly was one of the best teachers, ever! He cared enough about his students to provide us with discipline and structure to become the best learners we could. I am sorry that I never got a chance to say to him how wonderful I thought he was and the difference he made in my education. May he rest in peace.
