Obituary of George Hill
It is with deep sorrow that the family of George Hill announce his passing at the Veterans Wing, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Born on August 9, 1928 in Freetown, PEI, he was the son of the late Roy and Elizabeth (Bell) Hill.
George will be lovingly missed by his wife of 69 years, Lillian (Jack) Hill; son, Wayne (Sheila) Hill; daughters, Debbie (Jim) Shanks, Cheryl Gibb, Cathy (Bill) Fallow; grandchildren, Kendra Gibb (Allan), Matthew Gibb, Kaila Elder, Roy Hill (Lauren), Hanna Downey (Chris), Kim Connell (Rob), Kaitlyn Fallow; ten great grandchildren; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. George is also survived by his brother, Gerald; brother-in-law, Harold MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Goldie Smallwood and Ruth MacDonald. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Laura MacDonald (Elmer Buchanan); brother, Arnold and his wife, Eva; brothers-in-law, John Smallwood and Herb MacDonald.
George served 27 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served two United Nations Peacekeeping tours in Vietnam and Cyprus. Following his armed forces career, he was employed by RCMP J Division in Fredericton.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 2-4 pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. Graveside service and interment will take place in Lower Bedeque, PEI at a later date. The family requested that memorial donations be made to the Veterans Wing of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Centre or the charity of the donor’s choice.
