Obituary of Enid Pugh
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Enid Jean (Saunders) Pugh on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Fredericton Hospice House. She will always be fondly remembered as a kind, gentle and quiet lady.
Mom was born in Woodlands, NB, the youngest of ten children to Leslie and Nellie (Brewer) Saunders and later her step-father, Benjamin Saunders “Uncle Benny”. She so much enjoyed growing up on the farm with her family and close friends that she started a daily diary when she was five years old and kept one until well into her seventies. She especially enjoyed her little school, so much so that upon completing grade eight, she went back again the following year! Her small church was perhaps her favourite place to be. Mom has always been a devout Christian. And in later years she was an active member of the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Main Street; she served on many committees and was the secretary treasurer for more that 30 years. Mom worked as a secretary for the NB Public Employees Association and was a member of the Elm Tree Square Dancers well into her late seventies or early eighties. As with her sisters, she was a wonderful cook and baker.
Enid is survived by her three adoring sons, Richard, Edward, and Dennis (Judy Wilson); her dear sister Kathleen Holyoke “Aunt Kaye”; grandchildren, Natalie Pugh (Mike Fletcher), Jason Pugh (Dan Lapierre), Jennifer Pugh and Christopher Pugh (Carmen Hartwell); great grandchildren, Robbie Fletcher (Danielle Porter) and Jessica Fletcher; great-great grandson, Hunter Fletcher; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her church family and numerous close friends. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Kim Steeves, Marg Cole and everyone at Hospice Fredericton for all the wonderful care, compassion and kindness extended to our Mom.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her four brothers, Wilson, Ian, Murray and Irvine; four of her sisters, Dorothy, Muriel, Klyne, Helen and their spouses.
At the somber request of her sons there will be no immediate visitation or funeral; there will be a graveside service officiated by Rev. Paul Ranson at the Woodlands Cemetery, Woodlands, NB, hopefully on a nice sunny day in the spring. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish remembrances may be made to the St John’s the Evangelist Church Building Fund. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
