Obituary of Michael Furlong
Life Legacy
Michael Raymond Furlong, April 15, 1950 - January 28, 2019, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was predeceased by his father, James Joseph "Raymond" Furlong; mother, Marjorie Ruth (Cameron); brothers, John (infant) and James.
Michael is survived by his wife, Cheryl Gillespie; brother, Paul (Kay); son, Peter, and grandson, Jesse.
Although many would remember Michael for his 30 years of operating his own business of “Furlong Electronic Services”, or for his work in retail for over a decade, people may not be aware of his many outside interests and hobbies.
In 1971, Michael attained a gold medal in archery, and in 1979-80, he earned an orange belt in karate.
He was also proud to take home numerous trophies, after entering his shelties in dog obedience trials.
Other longtime passions for Michael included model railroading, as well as building and flying radio controlled airplanes.
In the privacy of his own home, he enjoyed trying his hand at woodworking, painting with acrylics, and spending many hours researching his family genealogy.
A member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch Number 4 in Fredericton for 25 years, Michael also had a great interest in history, and particularly liked to read about the first and second world wars.
Closest to Michael’s heart was his love of music. Although he dabbled with a few different instruments, his Martin guitar was his prized possession. It was with this guitar, that Michael composed a collection of his own original songs. Throughout his music years, he organized charity concerts, and performed at country fairs, city parks, churches, nursing homes, as well as the Fredericton Playhouse.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Cheryl, and his feline fur baby, Mattie.
Michael, may the infinite love of God, bring you everlasting peace and rest.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring under the direction of York Funeral Home, Fredericton, NB.
