Obituary of William Oldford

William Ira “Bill” Oldford passed away at Hospice Fredericton on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the age of 72. Born in Glace Bay, NS, he was the son of the late Norman and Kay (Robinson) Oldford. For 35 years Bill served as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, attaining the rank of sergeant and stationed in Campbellton, Bathurst, Newcastle, Moncton, and ultimately Fredericton, where he moved in 1975 and remained until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Island View Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for 17 years. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon (Steeves) and was a loving and caring father to his three children, Jason of Fredericton, Jon (Suzanne) of Fredericton, and Jeff of Halifax. He is also survived by his siblings, Charles (Clare) of Ottawa, Norma (Tom Warner) of Sydney, David (Florence) of Russell, ON and Paul (Shauna) of Glace Bay; brother-in-law, Garry Steeves (Vivian) of Moncton; several nieces and nephews. Bill was also a loving grandfather to his four beautiful grandchildren, Coen and Evva of Fredericton, Will and Olivia of Halifax. He cherished every moment spent with them. The family will be receiving visitors at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at York Funeral Home’s T.Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton or a charity of the donor’s choice and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
