I have recently learned of Dr. Hildebrand's passing and extend my sympathy to his family. I am a 1964 TC grad and John was responsible for my teaching position that fall. I was the first teacher at the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Center and it was his influence with the Department of Education to establish this position. I taught there for four years and it gave me an excellent start to my career and my life.
Sincerely,
Rilla (Tapley) McLean

Dr. Hildebrand was a true educator. During my days at Teachers' College and UNB, his example was one I valued. He was practical, empathetic, humourous and most fair to each of his students. "Synthesis of teaching Methods" was in my classroom over the 32 years that I taught here in the province. I trust the tributes you receive and the memories you have will brighten these days. I will always be thankful that his life intersected with mine.

To John's family;
We are sorry we could not attend but we both wanted you to know that neither one of us would have gotten a teaching job had it not been for John. In both cases he saw in us "teachers". We are both so very thankful for him. He was a wonderful educator and a great man. Rest in peace John. With sincere appreciation, Michael and Valerie (Kilfillen) Drury

It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of Dr. Hildebrand. An outstanding educator and administrator, he will be remembered as one of the most outstanding contributors to education in this province. As superintendent in Fredericton for many years, he will be remembered for his leadership and ability to handle situations with dignity and calm resolution. When I would meet him over the years he would be so pleased to see me. He was a true gentleman. Deepest sympathy to his wife and family, some of whom I had the pleasure to teach at FHS. It was a great privilege and blessing to know John over many years. That contact came mostly thru Berwick United Church Camp and mutual interest and involvement with United Church Men of Maritime Conference. He made wonderful contributions to both and will be long remembered and sorely missed. I send heartfelt condolences to Isabel and the whole family.
