Life Legacy Kingston, Jean (nee Haynes)—At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on Friday, September 14th surrounded by family. Jean was born on December 23, 1925 in Kintore, Ontario; the daughter of Harry Haynes and Jessie Hyslop. Jean graduated from the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in London, Ontario in 1947 and later a Public Health Nursing Certificate from the University of Western Ontario. Jean had a varied nursing career in public health, hospitals and nursing homes. However, Jean’s first love was public health. Her career included the Victorian Order of Nurses in Campbellton and Halifax, public health in the Stanley-Boiestown-Doaktown area and the Metepenagiag Mi'kmaq Nation in New Brunswick, nursing homes in Sackville and Miramichi, New Brunswick and hospitals in Winchester, Ontario, Inverness, Nova Scotia and Souris, Prince Edward Island. Her contributions to promoting nurses and the nursing profession were recognized in 1991 with a Certificate of Recognition from the Nurses Association of New Brunswick. She was also active in her church, supporting the 39-year ministry of her husband, the late Rev. Harold Kingston in varied roles including Sunday school teacher, Junior Choir director, and leading the children’s story during worship services. In retirement, Jean was active with the United Church Women and the quilter’s group at St. Paul’s United Church in Fredericton. Jean is survived by her children, Joan (Jacques Roy), New Maryland, NB; Keith (Marilyn), Stanley, NB; Kenneth (Maria van Vonderen), Bayfield, NS; and Pam (Nuy) Keus, Delta, BC. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennie, Josh, Nuy, Stephanie, Sarah, Nick and Jeremy and great-grandchildren Jasmine and Gonzalo. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Harold; as well as brothers Jack and Keith (Bernice), and sister Pauline (Gord) Chenoweth. The family would like to thank the staff at Brunswick Hall at Shannex Parkland and Sharon Hamilton NP for their excellent care. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church, 224 York Street, Fredericton. Reception to follow at the St. Paul’s United Church Hall. Burial of ashes at Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Paul’s United Church.
