Obituary of Carl Gautreau

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Edward Roy Gautreau. Born in Gallagher Ridge, NB on December 30, 1950, he was the oldest of 11 siblings, something he was so proud of. He moved to Fredericton in 1971 where he began his career at NB Power and met the love of his life, Cynthia. He spent 44 years at NB Power and took great pride in all of the lifelong friendships he made there. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8654. Carl was a proud family man and would talk about his boys to anyone within earshot. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity and passion to help others. He was loved by anyone who ever met him. Carl is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cynthia; his father, Arthur “Art” Gautreau; his sons, Evan and Matthew both of Fredericton, NB; his brothers, Jack (Sharon), Paul, Danny, Robb (Debbie) and his sisters, Patricia, Theresa (Walter), Lea (Gary), Millie (Johnny) and Corrine (Bob); numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Virginia (Chase) Gautreau and his brother, Donald. “He did not tell us how to live; he simply lived and let us watch.” Special thanks to all the staff at the Chalmers Hospital and the Saint John Regional, especially during his last days in Palliative Care; the nurses were great to him and to us. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated from St. Theresa’s Parish on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11 am with Father Martin Arputham and Father John Jennings as celebrants. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Chalmers Foundation-Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
