Obituary of Winnifred Dimock

DIMOCK, WINNIFRED (BRAMBLE)—Jesus came to take His daughter, our dear Winnie, home on Thursday, July 26 at 1:51 am. She passed quietly and peacefully into the presence of her Saviour holding the hand of her beloved husband, Tom. Just hours before, her grandson, Daxon Charles Dimock Ashton, came into the world and met his Grammy in person. Even though she wasn’t able to physically respond, we knew she had been waiting for this last miracle and, being the ever-faithful Mother Bear, was free to leave us knowing her Baby Bears were all safe and sound. Winnie is now reunited with her parents, Charles and Alberta Bramble and her brother, Eldon. While we rejoice that she now has a new body and is free of pain, her family feels her loss deeply: husband Tom; daughters and sons-in-law Letisha & Grant Leman and Andrea & Myles Ashton; beautiful grandchildren Maverick, Lorelei, Lena (Leman), Addison and Daxon (Ashton); siblings and in-laws Neil & Ann Bramble, Edna Bramble (Eldon), Denver & Arlene Bramble, Ardeth & George Glenwright, Bev & Susan (Bramble/Currie), Tim & Pam Dimock; specially-loved nieces and nephews and their families; aunts, cousins and a wealth of friends. Winnie was rich for the way she loved and was loved by all who knew her. Born in Fredericton, October 5, 1959 she grew up on her father's farm in Maugerville. She was ever active in sports and working crafts with her nieces and friends. When she was 13 she was stricken with scoliosis which affected her athletic desires, but it never stopped her from being active. She loved walks. She attended schools in Maugerville, Barkers Point, and Fredericton, graduating from FHS in 1978. She took one year of Sciences at University of New Brunswick. She attended Atlantic Baptist College (Crandall University) in 1979 where she excelled in her courses and also met her husband Tom. Winnie was a gifted musician having both a lovely voice and the ability to play piano. After Winnie and Tom were married she would use her musical gifts playing for the youth choir when they lived in Canning, Nova Scotia while Tom attended Acadia. 1984 saw her move to Calgary for two years while her and Tom found work, then to Manitoba in 1986 while Tom attended a Counselling degree. In all this time she invested deeply into the lives of both friends and neigbours offering herself in whatever way she could bless. She was over the moon for her first child, Letisha, who was born in Manitoba and 1988 and she became the consummate mother. Moving back to New Brunswick she was blessed with yet another of her jewels, Andrea in 1990, who gave us a start when she decided to appear many weeks earlier than expected. But how Winnie loved her so and Andrea herself can tell you how she has thrived and matured. Living first in Hope Well Cape then on Trites Road, Riverview, Winnie raised her family with love and affection. She was also involved with AWANA clubs and playing the piano when needed. The great move of 1997 first brought her back home to Maugerville for a time then to her present home just outside of Fredericton. She was happy to be back at her home church of Upper Maugerville Baptist attending with her Mom and Dad and many of her past friends and neigbours. For over 20 years she was the Church Secretary as a great point of contact for all the new Pastors while she continued to help where she could in Sunday School. Winnie's greatest gift was her love and teaching abilities for little children. The evidence of her life are found within these children. All her grandchildren were loved deeply by her and she knew each one as individuals. Winnie's journey with cancer began in January, 2016 and continued until she went home in July, 2018. She never wavered, not once, in her faith in Jesus and refused to stop fighting to live. She spoke and encouraged many people in the Saint John Hospital. Her most courageous fight began this past January when she could no longer walk and was at home. All the oncologists and palliative doctors were amazed at how strong she fought and how well her body was during this terrible disease that attacked her brain. She clearly stated that her health and strength came from the Lord. The Doctors never argued with her. After a long week of struggle she gave up only when there was nothing else to give up and went to her most joyous peace and the freedom of running with the little children. Special thanks to the wonderful medical staff at DECH and Saint John where she was treated with above average respect and priority and the incredible nurses at Hospice House in Fredericton who loved and cared for Winnie like family. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home on Monday, July 30th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A service to celebrate Winnie’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 31st at 2:00 pm at Maugerville Baptist Church followed by interment at the Maugerville Cemetery and a time to share memories and refreshments at the Eldon Bramble Memorial Park and Community Center. In lieu of flowers we invite you to consider a donation to Hospice House to further the work of comfort care in the end stages of life. We respectfully request no perfumes, strong scents or flowers and cigarette smoke at all gatherings. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
