Obituary of Perley Crain

The passing of Perley Leslie Crain of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Della (Love) Crain occurred on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Veterans Health Unit. Born on April 24, 1922 in Rosalie, Carleton County, NB he was the son of the late Leslie and Alice (Wright) Crain. He served in the military in Germany for four years. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 27, Lower Southampton, NB. Perley was a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1973. He then went on to community college, and then opened his own upholstery business. Perley was affiliated with St. James Presbyterian Church. Perley is survived by his daughters, Marguerite Yerxa of Davidson Lake, NB and Rena Brewer of Burtts Corner, NB; sons, Bert Crain of Woodstock, NB and Leslie Crain of New Market, NB; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; special daughter in law, Linda Crain of Hanwell, NB; sisters, Phyllis of Elie, MB; brother, Frank Crain of Dumfries, NB; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Audrey; several grandchildren; his sisters, Edith, Thelma and Gertrude; brothers, Earl, Clifford, Basil, Jack, Paul and Lee Crain. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 7-9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 27, Southampton are asked to assemble at the funeral home for a Legion Tribute Service on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 7 pm. Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Wendy MacWilliams officiating. Interment will take place in Barony Cemetery. The family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Keddy and the staff of the Veterans Health Unit for the exceptional care they provided for Perley over the past seven years. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Barony Cemetery, Dumfries Fire Department – Pets Oxygen Mask or the Veterans Health Unit. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
