Obituary of Helen MacTavish

Today, we say good-bye to our loving Matriarch, Helen Louise, wife of Boyd MacTavish, who passed from us on June 21, 2018. Helen was born in Perth-Andover in 1931 to Joseph and Isabel (MacDonald) McQuade. Besides her husband, Boyd of 67 years, she is survived by son, Richard (Debbie); daughters, Nancy (Ron) and Judy; seven grandchildren, Mark, Brent and Jeff MacTavish, Ashley (Sheppard) and Stephen Worthen, Tim and Sarah (Brown) Martin, as well as eight great grandchildren; brother, David (Carol) McQuade; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joe; sister-in-law Barb McQuade and son in law, Bert Worthen. Helen loved people, and with her kind and caring way, volunteered at the DECH for 38 years. From 1962-1999, she was happiest when serving her patrons at the famous lunch counters in Joe’s Diner and MacTavish for Sports. A large part of her legacy was leaving people feeling welcome and satisfied after one of her “home cooked” meals. She was delighted to manage the grill and make her delicious pies, sometimes patrons even called her “the pie lady”. Mum and Dad were a great team always working together. They taught their children to work hard, be kind to others and say their prayers for those less fortunate. At this time of bereavement, we extend special thanks to Dr. Tom Barry and the extra-mural staff for their excellent support and compassionate care. Visitation will take place at Gibson Memorial United Church on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 to 6.00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at the same location on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kelly Higgins officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Gibson Memorial United Church, Diabetes Society of New Brunswick or the charity of the donor’s choice.
