Joakim Hermelin 1934-2018
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joakim Hermelin on Friday, June 15, 2018. A native of Sweden, Joakim moved to Canada with his family when he was 40. He worked the majority of his years with the Forest Extension Service in the New Brunswick Government. He had a passion to help people and had been active in the Rotary Club all his life. He loved nature and spent endless hours in the UNB woodlot and in his garden.
Joakim is survived by his wife Michele (Proulx), his children Louise (Jacques Leroy), Peter (Jane Kidney) and Tessa (Kevin Seldon), and six grandchildren (Maneesha, Maika, Gracie, Erik, Laura and Alex). Joakim was predeceased by his parents Sven Samuel and Alida (Akerblom) Hermelin. His siblings, Ulrika, Niklas and Christoffer continue to live in Sweden.
The family extends sincere thanks to all the caring staff at York Care Centre, home to Joakim for the last 5 years of his life.
There will be no visitation but an informal Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday July 12th from 2pm-4pm at 430 Lisgar Street, Fredericton hermelin.house@gmail.com Those who so desire may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
