Obituary of Gordon Carlisle

Life Legacy 1940-2018 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Gordon MacFarlane ‘Mac’ Carlisle on June 14, 2018. Mac passed away while enjoying one of his great passions - fishing on the beautiful Restigouche River. Mac was the loving husband of 53 years and best friend of Gail (Wilson), proud father of Anthony (Jennifer) who predeceased him and Jeffery (Stephanie), and the loving & doting grandfather to their very special grandchildren: Mathieu, Conner, Megan, Spencer, Zoe and Mac. He was born in Fredericton, NB, 11 January 1940, to B. Spencer and Marjorie (MacFarlane) Carlisle and enlisted in the RCMP in 1958. After serving in many Nova Scotian communities for 22 years he retired as Staff Sergeant in 1980 to become Chief of Police in his native Fredericton. In that capacity he was instrumental in modernizing the city’s force and proudly served with great distinction for 25 years, being elected as President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police in 1990 and being invested as an Officer of the Order of Merit by the Governor General in 2005. Mac loved life, living with Gail on the family homestead in the Douglas area of Fredericton, where his parents and grandparents farmed before him. He enjoyed an active lifestyle, having skied on many hills in Canada, USA and Austria, hunted and fished many areas and rivers of the Maritimes and played competitive hockey during high school and at the senior level in later years. In their retirement, he and Gail spent many wonderful winter seasons at their ‘hideaway’ in Costa Rica and enjoyed several exciting long distance bike trips on continental Europe and lately, in the beautiful Cotswolds area of England. He will be greatly missed by his family and sister Katharine (Paul), his nieces and nephews, his many very close friends, cousins and the Canadian policing community. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 2:00PM at St. Dunstan’s Parish, 120 Regent St., Fredericton with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Donations in memory of Mac may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
