Obituary of Eliona Young

Life Legacy The passing of Eliona Margaret (Douglass) Young occurred on Monday, May 7th at her home in Taymouth, under the loving and compassionate care of her family. Eliona was born in Maryville and raised in Red Rock, NB, the daughter of the late John and Nettie (Pond) Douglass. She was predeceased in 2002 by the love of her life, Gerald Dennison Young, her husband of over 50 years. Eliona graduated from Stanley High School. She taught school in Tay Falls and Cardigan and then went on to fulfill her lifelong ambition of becoming a nurse, graduating from the Victoria Public Hospital Nurses Training program in 1950. Eliona did private duty nursing, worked at the former Stanley Hospital and then the Nashwaak Villa until her retirement. For many years, she helped Gerald in the running of Young’s Turkey Farm, and later Young’s Beef Farm, while looking after her family and working as an RN. Eliona enjoyed doing the crossword puzzle in the Daily Gleaner each day. She liked to watch and play along with game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and enjoyed cooking shows such as Master Chef Canada. She was accomplished in quilting and crocheting, often entering her creations in the Stanley Fair. She was also known for her excellent cooking skills – many of the local boys helped in the hay field just so they could enjoy her delicious suppers! She found comfort reading passages from her bible, which she always kept close by. She was a member of the Taymouth United Church and a lifetime member of the Taymouth United Church Women. Eliona is survived by her children Terry (Susan) Young, Eldon Young, Kevin (Janice) Young, Margaret (James) Somerville and Mark (Roxanne) Young; her grandchildren Jeff (Amy) Young, Ryan (Samantha) Young, Maggie Young, Jasmine Young, Jaime Young, Eric Young, Jessica (Derek) Whitlock, Stephen (Candace) Somerville, Brett Young, Abbi (Caleb) Young and Ben Young; her great-grandchildren, Brenden Leblanc, Ava Young, Alexa and Drew Whitlock, who lovingly referred to her as “Gigi”, Addison and Summer Jones, August Somerville and her faithful dog, Danny Boy, who she always saved the last bite of food for from her dinner plate. She is also survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Smith, Stuart (June) Douglass, Donnalene (Brad) Flemming, Diane (George) Seely and sisters-in-law Jean Young and Shirley Douglass, together with numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandchildren Terrance Young and Holly Jeanne Young; siblings Louis (Hilda, Florence) Douglass, Guy (Flora) Douglass, Verona (Earle) MacNaughton, Johnny Douglass, Jean Marie (Austin) Bubar and brother-in-law John Smith. Eliona’s family are very appreciative of the care she received from Dr. Kendrick Lacey for many years. She felt so comforted by the care and home visits from Drs. Persaud, Quay and Clayton over the last several months. We, her family, are extremely grateful for the wonderful care and concern shown to Mom by the Extramural Nurses, with special appreciation to Sheri and Melissa for their professional skills and comforting manner with us all. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 2-5 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Taymouth United Church on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Yvette Swan officiating.
