Obituary of Evelyn Yerxa

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn Hazel Yerxa, wife of the late Ralph B. Yerxa and daughter of the late Winslow and Hazel (Parker) MacLaughlin, announces her passing on May 5, 2018 Saturday morning around 10:30am at York Care Center in Fredericton, NB. Evelyn was born on May 25, 1924 in the parish of Prince William, the middle child with 2 brothers. Evelyn was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church and Charter member of the UCW, active member of Unit 4 until her illness. She volunteered at York Manor over 25 years which she enjoyed very much. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, aunt, a friend to many, a homemaker, excellent cook, and a family pillar who always had wise advice when needed. Prior to York Manor’s construction, a large 2 storey building existed named the York County Municipal Home which included a farm. Evelyn and Ralph ran the farm which provided food for the home, where Evelyn also worked periodically. She loved to knit and was always very generous with her slippers and mittens. Evelyn’s pride and joy were her only son and wife, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her family and friends. She enjoyed the visits and phone calls from everyone. Evelyn is survived by one son, John W. and his wife, Louise; grandchildren, Jessie and husband, Andrew, Jordan and wife, Amanda; three great grandchildren, Riley, Ren (Jordan) and Asher (Jessie); a sister-in-law, Mavis MacLaughlin; cousins, Wilma, Joan and Wilma; niece, Vella MacLaughlin and Corey; special nieces and nephews, Gary, Valerie, Bonnie, Peter, Richard, Douglas, Cathy, Janet, Chris, Patricia, Joyce, Debi, Roy, Hazen, Eileen and Norma; and special friends, Eva Logan, Joan Meade and Winnie Bates. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Ralph in 1999; her parents; a brother, Raymond, another brother Elburne and wife, Mazie, their daughter Edwinna Budrow and son Rodney; nephew, Charlie Barr. The family extends a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Tower 3, and Pastor Norm at York Care Center for their excellent care and compassion, it will never be forgotten. Services will be held at and conducted by York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, with visitation on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 1 pm with Rev. Franklin Curtis officiating. A reception by the UCW will follow before interment at Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. Pallbearers will be Jordan Yerxa, Andrew Phillips, Chris Yerxa, Gary MacLaughlin, Chris Le Blanc and Michael Meade. For those who wish, donations could be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
