Obituary of Patricia Burgess
Life Legacy
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patricia Ann (Pat) Burgess, of Fredericton, NB. Pat passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 19, 2018, with her family at her side.
Born on June 1, 1948 in Campbellton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Dobson) Gilker. Pat attended school in Campbellton and graduated from the UNB Bachelor of Nursing program in 1970. She worked as a Nursing Instructor in Peterborough, ON, as a nurse with NB Public Health, and at the Red Cross where she was the Provincial Manager of the Home Support Program and Past President of the NB Home Support Association. She was an active member of the St. John the Evangelist Anglican church in the choir and band for 40 years. She was a manager of provincial Ringette teams, and very active in various associations regarding disability awareness.
Pat is survived by her loving husband, Richard (Dick), whom she was married to for 47 years; daughters, Kristin (Andrew Angus) and Karen of Fredericton, and beloved grandchildren, Isaac and Bronwyn Angus. She is also survived by brothers, Brian Gilker (Ellen) and Reid Gilker (Audrey), as well as several cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Mike Gilker, and sister, Dianne (Lorne) Stymiest.
Pat was dedicated to her husband and daughters, and her two grandchildren were the pride of her life. Much of her time and energy were lovingly spent on her family. She created a warm and loving home for family and friends who she welcomed as family. She has left us wonderful memories of laughter and stories shared around the dinner table. Many enjoyable times were had with family and friends at Grand Lake. She travelled the world, and really cherished her time spent on cruises with Karen. Our family’s song bird, her music will fill our hearts and minds forever.
She was a true leader in every aspect of her life at home and work and was a strong advocate for disability awareness. She lived her life with integrity and found joy in helping others to do their best. A problem solver and strong voice of reason, she was a fixer and could always make a difficult situation a little better. We will be forever thankful for the gift she was to us.
