Obituary of Ernest Rutledge
The passing of Ernest Edward Rutledge of Fredericton, NB occurred on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Venta Care Centre in Edmonton, AB. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel Mary Rutledge of Fredericton, NB. Born in Fredericton, NB on June 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Lillian and Harris Rutledge. Ernest spent 23 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, he retired in 1973. He served in Scotland, Egypt, Germany, London and Ontario, before being posted to Camp Gagetown, NB. Ernest was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 58 years. He was also an avid golfer.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Mary (Terry) Towers (Edwin) of Beaumont, AB, Judy Rutledge-Shipman (Gary) of Tucson, AZ; son, Ernest Rutledge Jr. (Heather) of Plaster Rock, NB; 17 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lily Ann Burge on April 9, 2010. Ernest is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents and wife, Ernest was predeceased by his sisters, Lois Stone, Ada Payne and Kay Bridgeo.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 12-2 pm; followed by the Funeral Service at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Marysville Baptist Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
