Obituary of Carl Oakley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Wilfred Oakley, of Fredericton, NB, on March 21, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Self-described Bluenoser, Carl was born in Halifax, NS on November 29, 1936. He was a son of the late Frederick and Bertha (Coolen) Oakley. "Dad" was a proud member of the Armoured Core of the Canadian Military for 25 years – 8th Canadian Hussars (PL) and the Royal Canadian Dragoons, serving in Germany and Egypt. He was also a passionate fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. A very social man, Carl enjoyed his retirement, relishing time with friends from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 and the 8th Canadian Hussars Centurion Club. Many will have fond memories of social times with Carl at the local Tim Hortons coffee shops in Oromocto and Fredericton. Carl is survived by his daughter, Kim (Percy) of Maugerville; son, Bradley (Tracy) of Wembley, Alberta; their mother, Deanna Oakley; cherished grandchildren, Brian (Lisa), Brent (Oriana), Brittany (Alexander), Brittany, Amber, Zachary, Matthew, Devin, Alex, Dylan, and Jordan; great-grandchild, Josephine; sister, Betty Niles of London, ON; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Marion, Marjorie and Marie, and his brothers, Fred, John, Frank, Earl, Ralph and Bruce. Predeceased by his beloved daughter, Carrie Oakley. Special thanks to Dr. Scott Robertson, Social Worker Pam Stagg and all the Nurses of 4NW at the DECH for providing care and compassion at this difficult time. There will be no services by request.
