Obituary of Robert Watling

The passing of Robert Alexander Watling, of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Robin (Pugh) Watling, occurred on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 15, 1925 in Chatham, NB, he was a son of the late Wallace and Ellen (Gunning) Watling. Robert worked for CN Railroad; he then retired as Senior Executive Officer of New Brunswick’s Public Service Labour Relations Board. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, shuffleboard and square dancing. Robert was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Alexandria Lodge, Masonic Lodge, and St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church. Robert is survived by his children, Stephen Watling (Liz) of Fredericton, NB, Marjorie Durling (Jim) of ON and Anne Watling of Chipman, NB; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister, Jean Bradwell of Montreal, QC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was predeceased by his sisters, Phyllis and Allison and his brothers, Edward and Lloyd Watling. A Memorial Service will be held from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 1 pm with Rev. Dr. Ross Hebb officiating and Rev. Paul Ranson assisting. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion are asked to assemble at the church for a Legion Tribute Service at 1 pm just prior to the service. Interment will take place in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
