Obituary of Leonard LeBlanc

LeBLANC, Leonard Roy, MSC It is with broken hearts what we announce the passing of Leonard Roy LeBlanc, beloved husband of Cheryl (Jaffrey) on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Hospice Fredericton. Left to mourn along with his wife are his step-daughter, Emma Jaffrey of Vancouver, British Columbia, brothers Chris (Judy) of Edmonton, Alberta, Michael of Cold Lake, Alberta and sister Jacqueline of Ontario, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Leonard is also survived by special friends Trudi Sparks and Terry Burtt as well as Valerie (Val) Hussey who we referred to as his “work wife”. Born in Greenwood, Nova Scotia on April 23, 1958 to parents Roy and Sheila (Titus) LeBlanc, both deceased. With a father in the Air Force, Leonard and his siblings grew up in Greenwood, NS and Chatham, NB. Retired from the Royal Canadian Navy on 2002, Leonard served 25 years in the service of his Country on such ships as HMCS Fraser; HMCS Algonquin; HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Athabaskan and HMCS Nipigon. In the time he was not at sea, Leonard was a communications instructor, travelling throughout Canada to teach short wave radio and Morse Code. He was recognized in 1994 with a Special Service Medal for Nato; in 2000 the Canadian Peace Keeping Medal; in 2001 a Canadian Decoration with Clasp and in 2002 he was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. Upon retirement from the Navy, Leonard obtained a certificate with honours in Appliance Service from the Nova Scotia Community College which led him to Fredericton in 2003. With time on his hands, which is something Leonard did not like, he started working at Atelka, where he was a strict but respected team leader who was compassionate and incredibly funny despite the grumpy persona he liked to portray. From there he went to the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires where he remained until his health forced him to retire in September. At Leonard’s request (or insistence if you knew him), there will be no funeral service. Visitation will be at York’s Funeral Home on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Leonard has requested donations be made in his memory to Hospice House Fredericton, Victoria’s Quilts (NB Branch) or CARMA.
