Obituary of Margaret Keenan

Margaret (Campbell) Keenan lived a full and rich life with few regrets. When she left this world on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Ste. Anne’s Court, Fredericton, NB, she left many family members and friends who knew her as a loving, strong, and generous person who gave of herself to family, community, and work. Marg was one of six children born to William and Annie (Markey) Campbell in Saint Thomas, NB. She attended Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John for three years and graduated from Centreville Regional School in 1953. A year earlier, Marg met Bob Keenan, whom she married in 1954. Together they raised four sons and two daughters. She worked at the Royal Bank of Canada prior to her children being born and returned to the workforce in 1976, holding various positions in services for seniors with Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the NB Department of Health and Community Services. Marg’s greatest love in life was her family. Throughout her years, her home with Bob was the hub of activity for family and friends, and since Marg loved to cook, the site of many celebrations around the table. Following retirement in 1992, Marg and Bob moved from the family home in Nashwaaksis to Whites Cove where they built Marg’s dream home, a log house overlooking Grand Lake which became the gathering place for family, including extended visits by Marg’s dearly-loved grandchildren. She lived there for 15 years with Bob and was a member of the Jemseg Lions Club and St. Patrick’s Church as well as the editor and publisher of the Jemseg Lions Club Newsletter. Marg and Bob returned to Fredericton in 2006 due to declining health and settled in Fredericton North near St. Theresa’s Church. Marg was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Women’s League from 1962 until her death. Back in Fredericton, she learned to play bridge, a hobby that quickly became a passion. Marg is survived by her daughters, Mona (Daryl) Crossman and Barb (John) Williams; sons, Brian (Carla), Bill (Theresa) and Dan (Mary Kay) Keenan; grandchildren, Geoffrey Crossman, Erin, Michael and Robbie Williams, Natalie, Matthew, Kristi Dawn, Mitchell, Katelyn and Jennifer Keenan; great grandchildren, Will, Emily and Maya. She is also survived by brothers, Clement and Donald; sisters in law, Twinnie (Richard) Clark, Zella Campbell, Evelyn (Al) Caterson, Lillian Bibby, Monica Jurosky, Beatrice Ross, Joan Kenny and Irene Keenan; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, William and Annie (Markey) Campbell, she was predeceased by her husband in 2011, Bob Keenan the love of her life; son, Steven; grandson, Christopher Crossman, brothers, Paul, Francis and Patrick “Pat” Campbell. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 3-5 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1 pm with Father John Jennings officiating. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room.
