Obituary of Sylvain Rioux

Surrounded by his family, the passing of Sylvain Gaetan Rioux of Fredericton, NB, husband of Pauline (Goodine) Rioux, occurred on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on October 25, 1961 in Verdun, QC he was a son of Lisette (Couvrette) Rioux of Longueuil, QC and the late Jean Rioux. He believed strongly in his Nation so much so that he served 21 years in the Canadian Navy. Sylvain could often be heard commenting on how lucky we were to be living in such a great country. Sylvain most recently worked as driver and security for three Lieutenant Governors of New Brunswick, a job he adored and took tremendous pride in. There truly was no bigger fan than Sylvain of his beloved Montreal Canadians. He stuck with them through the good and bad, a true testament to just how loyal an individual he was. In addition to his wife and mother, Sylvain leaves behind his greatest accomplishment, his son, Alexander Rioux of Fredericton, NB, sister, Nathalie Rioux (Mario) of Saint Adolphe d’ Howard, QC; brothers, Claude Rioux (Nicole) of Longueuil, QC and Stephane Rioux (Carmen) of St. Hubert, QC; God child, Isabelle Poulin-Rioux (David Girouard-Desautels) of Sainte Helene de Bagot, QC; mother-in-law, Louise Goodine of Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Kimberley Goodine of Calgary, AB; special niece, Sarah Goodine-Pope (Simon) of London, England, along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Besides his father, Sylvain was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Rodney Goodine and his father-in-law, Shirley Goodine. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11 am with Rev. Tim Guptill officiating. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton.
