Obituary of Mary Burns

The passing of Mary Margaret (Keenan) Burns of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Clayton Burns, occurred on Monday, January 8, 2018 at York Care Centre. Born on July 9, 1922 in Brownville Junction, ME, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Clara (Hawes) Keenan. Mary was a school teacher that taught her whole career in New Brunswick. She was a member of St. Theresa’s and St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Churches and a pastoral care volunteer at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Mary is survived by daughters, Paula Naugler of Red Deer, AB and Marian Conrad (Michael) of Halifax, NS; sons, Clayton Burns of Vancouver, BC, Lloyd Burns (Sheila) of Fredericton, NB and James Burns of Hampton, NB; grandchildren, Derek Naugler, Brad Naugler, Kim Tang, Erin Luke, Wendi TeKamp, Karen Thorpe, Pamela Thorpe, Dillon Burns, Colin Burns and Sean Burns; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Crigger and Bernadette Mullin both of Sudbury, ON, Anna Rae McEvoy of Renous, NB, and Pauline Rantz (Bob) of Petawawa, ON; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Kathleen Daoust, Josephine Sturgeon and Patricia Underhill; brother, Earl Keenan; grandson, David Brown. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, January 9, 2017 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11am with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. The family wish to express a special thank you to Mary’s niece, Carmel Borland for her special time spent with Mary over the years as well as York Care Staff and volunteers for their attention, care and support.
