Obituary of Vincent Bernard

Surrounded by the love of his wife and children, Vincent Richard Bernard of Fredericton passed away after a brief illness, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Thursday, October 19, 2017. Born on June 17, 1932, he was the youngest son of the late Joseph and Marie (Richard) Bernard of Ste-Anne-de-Kent, NB. As a young man, Vince moved to Montreal where he married his childhood sweetheart Marie Maillet from Bouctouche, NB. He became a certified Electronic Technician and worked for Northern Electric until 1961, when he brought his growing family to Fredericton, NB and began a career with the provincial Department of Transportation that lasted until his retirement in 1992. During his retirement, Vince developed a passion for woodworking and furniture-making and was an active member of the Johnson Avenue Workshop. Vince will be remembered as a kind-hearted, caring and loving person who was always ready to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbours. With a ready laugh and a twinkle in his eye, he enjoyed the company of his very large extended family. As husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Vince was dedicated and supportive of their endeavours and interests. An avid reader of history, he was a keen promoter of education and learning. Vince was an active member of the Paroisse de Sainte-Anne-des-Pays-Bas and was a member of the Chevaliers de Colomb. In addition to his loving wife of 61 years Marie, Vince is survived by their children Martine Bernard of Rothesay, Marc (Anna) Bernard of Fredericton, Claudette (Pierre) Bernard-La France of Dieppe, and Luc (Monica) Bernard of Fredericton; grandchildren: John (Lisa), Olivia (Peter) and Adrienne McNair; Cst.
