Obituary of Hazel McCloskey
Hazel Muretta (Pond) McCloskey, wife of the late Darrell McCloskey, of Boiestown, NB, passed away August 12, 2017 at the Shannex nursing home in Fredericton, NB at the age of 89. Born in Ludlow, NB on May 19, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Doris (Hovey) Pond. In 1947, she started working at the McCloskey General Store in Boiestown. Throughout her life, Hazel was actively involved in her community. She was a life member of the United Church Women, founding and life member of the Women's Institute and Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Normandy Branch #78. Hazel was also a correspondent of Community News for the Daily Gleaner for many years. She had also worked with the Beauty Pageant at the Boiestown Fair.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Beverley O'Donnell; grandchildren, Shonna and Shannon; daughter, Susan McCloskey; grandchildren, Matthew and Scott Cameron (Tess Bernick); son, Brian McCloskey (Beth); grandchildren, Andrew, Suzanne Wood (Chad), Michael (Elena Blechert) and Emily Roe-McCloskey; daughter, Eileen Cain (Dan); grandchildren, Leah (Josh McClellan) and Reece; sister, Carol O’Donnell (Gilbert); sister-in-law, Christel Pond (late Wilfred); 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wilfred Pond and Merlin Pond (late Esther); sisters, Ethel Wilson (late Karl) and Elma Serre (late Phil Richardson)
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Chapel, New Brandon, NB on August 18, 2017 from 7-9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #78 Ladies’ Auxiliary are invited to assemble at 6:45 pm for a memorial. A Funeral Service will take place at Boiestown United Church, Boiestown, NB on August 19, 2017 at 1 pm with Pastor Brian Curtis officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joachim's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton SPCA, the Boiestown United Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
