Obituary of Rex McKay

Rex Harland McKay passed away at the Central New Brunswick Nursing Home in Boiestown, NB on June 11, 2017. Rex was an extraordinary man and was beloved by all who knew him. Nothing was more important to him than his God and his family. On paper, he lived an ordinary life, but he was a unique and special man. Whether it was working 20-hour days or driving hours to pick someone up or just showing up for coffee, he always put his love for his family into action. He was the strongest, smartest, most determined man you could meet. If it had to be done, he found a way. He was fiercely independent and though Alzheimer’s ravaged his mind, it could not take away that indomitable spirit. He will be remembered for that giant laugh and even bigger hugs. Strong as an ox, he would take on any project without any request for help. In his seventies, he would still climb on the roof or take his bicycle on hours-long rides. Nothing kept him down. He loved to be on the go. He loved hunting and fishing and all things outdoors, and he also loved to laugh and tease anyone who crossed his path. Rex gave his heart to God at the age of 69 and never looked back. He was faithful to his church and his church family at Nashwaak Valley Pentecostal Church. He never missed a service and served on the church board. He had a vibrant, living-out-loud faith that showed up in all he did. He loved his pastors and they loved him back. Rex loved all his family immensely and especially adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They put the sparkle in his eyes! He is survived by his wonderful wife of 61 years, Nellie; three sons, Wendell (Bonnie), Randall (Sheila) and Lee (Kristin); as well as his daughter, Jocelyn. Rex leaves behind his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Izella (Laurie), his brother Valentine (Hazel) and many in-laws. Rex is pre-deceased by his parents Neilo and Mildred, as well as six beloved siblings. Rex’s life will be celebrated at Nashwaak Valley Pentecostal Church. There will be a visitation at the church on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 2pm with Rev. Mike Trail officiating. Burial will follow at the Nashwaak Valley Pentecostal Church Cemetery with a reception to follow in the church. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com Rex would not want us to mourn but to celebrate a life well-lived and the hope of a future. Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
