Obituary of Edward "Ed" O'Neill

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward Henry O’Neill, husband of Florence (Holland) of 58+ years, announces his death at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB on Friday, 9 June, 2017. Born in Petersville, NB on 20 October 1932, he was the son of the late Andrew and Dorothy O’Neill. He was a former member of the Canadian Forces – The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. He worked for a short time at the Acadia Forestry as a mechanic’s assistant, followed by employment as a painter/joint filler before striking out on his own in that same field. Ed retired at the age of 80 in 2012. Ed was involved with the School Boys Hockey Program and Fredericton Youth Hockey. He could be found at the York Arena on any given day, ensuring that things ran smoothly. He also was involved in the Barker’s Point Little League program and coached the girls summer softball team for many years. Besides his wife Ed is survived by, daughter Louise O’Neill of Fredericton NB, sons Steven O’Neill (Terri) of Noonan NB, and Carl O’Neill of Fredericton NB; his granddaughters Samantha O’Neill Perry (Jeremy) of Noonan NB and Jodie O’Neill (Luke Campbell) of Grand Bay-Westfield NB; great granddaughter MacKenzie Perry of Noonan NB; sister Mary Elgee of Florida; brothers Greg O’Neill (Faye) of Saint John NB, Basil O’Neill (Karen) of Michigan; sister-in-laws Donna O’Neill of Plaster Rock NB, Phyilis Rath of London ON, Betty O’Neill of British Columbia; brother-in-law John Beyea of Fredericton NB; several nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his parents; his sister Dorothy Beyea; brothers Tom, Francis and Gerald O’Neill; sister-in-law Patience O’Neill and brother-in-law Ferris Elgee. Although there will be no Visitation or Funeral Service, a Private Graveside Service will be held at Sunny Bank Cemetery, Fredericton, NB at a later date.
