Obituary of Hayward Keeping
It is with great sadness that the family of Hayward Donald “Don” Keeping announce his passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer on June 3, 2017 at Hospice House, Fredericton, NB. Don was born in Ramea, NL on December 7, 1937 to Frederick Keeping and Evelyn (Scott) Keeping.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joyce Parker. He leaves behind his four children, Jody Keeping (Amanda) of Victoria, BC, Linda Richard (David), Gary Owen (Liette) and Donna Owen all of Moncton, NB; two step-children, Michael Morehouse of Ste. Catherine, QC and Troy Morehouse of Saint John, NB; seven grandchildren, Brenna (Zach) and Eric Richard, Emily (Ryan), Julie (Nozomi Kawamura), Jeffrey (Sarah), Kory (Charitie) and Brandon Owen; six great grandchildren, Lily, Soleil, Jaxon, Kye, Zander and Hudson Owen; one sister, Susan Tucker of Victoria, BC and one brother, Percy Keeping of Whitby, ON; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Keeping of Ramea, NL and Marlene Parker (Robert Lewzey) of Clearwater, FL; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Clyde, Martin, Eric, Launce and Aubrey all of Ramea, NL and three sisters, Vivian Cluett of Ramea, NL, Loretta Sherren of Fredericton, NB and Gladys LaChance of Ottawa, ON; three half brothers, Harold, Frederick and Alvin Keeping all of Ramea, NL and one half sister, Myra Reid of Sydney, NS.
Don had served in the Armed Forces for 17 years and later worked for many years with Fundy Cable and later with Rogers before his retirement. He loved golfing, woodworking, enjoyed travelling, having travelled to many different countries and loved life to the fullest.
The family would like to extend deep appreciation for the wonderful care provided to Don by the doctors and staff of the DECRH Oncology Department, staff of Extra Mural, especially Sheri and Nan, Dr. Gowan of DECRH Palliative Care and the staff of Hospice House Fredericton.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 3 to 5 pm. There will be no funeral service as per Don’s wishes. A private interment will take place in St. John’s the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DECRH Oncology Department or to Hospice House Fredericton and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
