Obituary of John Kerr

Kerr, John Ronald (Jack); The passing of John (Jack) Kerr of Fredericton, New Brunswick, occurred peacefully on April 29, 2017, at the DECH, Fredericton, New Brunswick. Jack was the husband of Dolly (Gabriel Mahoney) Kerr. He was born on August 23, 1929, in Bonaventure, Quebec, to the Late Bert & Jean (Henry) Kerr. Besides his wife Dolly, Jack is survived by his children, John (Krisann), Deborah Allen (Dana), Dr. Paul (Dawn) and Catherine McKenna (Jim); 13 grandchildren, Danielle Kerr, Chris Allen (Jessica), Victoria Fairley (Patrick), Peter Allen (Stefanie), Angela Wilson (Glenn), Siobhan Kerr, Laura Kerr, David Kerr, Molly Kerr, Maggie Kerr, Conor McKenna, Aidan McKenna and Liam McKenna; 9 great-grandchildren, Lyllian Kerr, Jordan Kerr, Rhiannon Allen, Camryn Black, Ryker Allen, Jaxon Fairley, Finn Allen, Ryan Wilson and Dayna Wilson. He is also survived by his sister May Coulombe (Guy), New Carlisle, Quebec, Sisters-in-law, Edie Kerr, Nova Scotia, Francoise Kerr, New Carlisle, Quebec, Eleanor Mahoney, Ontairo. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew Kerr, a great-grandson Elliott Fairley, his brothers Robert (Betty), Billy (Judy), Austin (Edie), Donnie (Francoise), sisters Kathleen Whitehead (Allen), and Rena Kerr. Jack led a full and productive life. He was educated in New Carlisle, Quebec with post-secondary education in Montreal, Quebec. He started his career in 1949 with Imperial Tobacco, in Montreal and Sherbrooke, Quebec, until September of 1951 when he secured a Sales position with The Canadian Salt Company Ltd. Thus began his 43 year career, travelling New Brunswick, PEI and the Magdalen Islands. Jack was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish Church in Marysville in 1961, and was Chairman of the building committee. He was also one of the founding members of the Fredericton Area Prostate Cancer Support Group, where until recently, remained an active member. He was also a former member of the Fredericton Kinsman Club, Marysville Lions Club, past Counsellor of The United Commercial Travellers (50+ years), and NWCT Association. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed golfing, curling, fishing, and hunting, and he took great pride in his manicured yard and lawns, flower beds and vegetable garden. Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home, Brookside Dr. Fredericton, NB. Visitation at York Funeral Home with be on Monday, May 1st, 2017, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Fredericton North, on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017, at 11:00am with Rev. Fr. Monte Peters as the Celebrant. Cremation will follow with a Private Burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Fredericton, at a later date.
