Obituary of Stephen Smith

Smith, Dr. Stephen The passing of Dr. Stephen Smith of New Maryland, NB, husband of Cheryl (Howe) Smith, occurred on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Born on February 7, 1959 in Saint John, NB he was the son of Norma (Cochrane) and the late Ralph Smith. Stephen is also predeceased by his father in law William Howe. In addition to his wife and mother, Stephen is survived by his daughter, Dr. Sarah Smith (Matthew); son, Chris Smith (Monica); siblings, Philip Smith (Karen) and Heather Casey (Charles); nieces, Rachael Blakney (Andrew) and Lauren Smith (Jon); nephew, Dallas Casey. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Eva Howe, Cheryl’s sisters Jean Whitlock (Bill) and Darlene Durling (David), nephews Steven Whitlock (Julie), Tim Whitlock (Anne Marie, Erin and Jenna) and Ross Durling. Stephen was a respected member of the medical community, Wilmot United Church, the UNB Hockey Team and his dance club. He was also loved as a good neighbour, musician, friend and advocate for many. He will be sorely missed. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 6 to 9 pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. A Funeral Service will be held at Wilmot United Church, 473 King Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2 pm with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. Reception to follow in church hall. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
