Obituary of Anne Buckland

Anne Buckland, daughter of the late Canon Basil and Nancy Buckland, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton on February 11, 2017. Anne was born in 1953 while her family were living in Welsford and after spending her early years in New Brunswick (growing up in Anglican church rectories in Welsford, Bathurst, Gagetown and Sussex Corner) moved to Calgary in 1980 where she worked for the city of Calgary as a secretary. In the late fall of 2015, she moved back to New Brunswick to live in Fredericton. Throughout her life, and right up until the time of her death, Anne pursued many interests centered around her church, music and her love of animals. She became a lay minister in Calgary and took an active role in Sunday services. She loved preparing sermons, reaching out to members of the congregation, and for a time also visited prison inmates. Most recently in Fredericton she became an active member of St Mary’s Anglican Church and engaged in many activities. In the fall of 2016 she and her faithful little dog Butler enrolled in and passed the Red Cross certificate course in therapeutic visiting, and made weekly visits to hospitals to provide comfort and cheer to patients, an activity loved by all. Blessed with a good voice, Anne sang in church choirs and large choral groups wherever she lived, most recently singing in St Mary’s church choir and performing with the Fredericton Choral Society. Anne touched the lives of all she met, and friends and neighbours remember her for her kindness and cheery smile. She gave all her many endeavours her best effort and met life’s challenges with courage and determination. Anne is survived by her three siblings: Roger and his wife Huguette, Dick and his wife Rosemary, and Joan and her husband Dan, and by 2 nieces, Elise and Phoebe, and 4 nephews, Ken, Tim, Andrew and Peter. The funeral will be held at St Mary’s Anglican Church, 780 McEvoy St, in Fredericton (North) on Thursday February 16, at 11:00 with Rev. Canon Kevin Stockall officiating. We invite Anne’s friends and acquaintances, old and new, to a reception following the service in the church hall, to meet and visit with her family and share fond memories and stories. We look forward to seeing everyone. In lieu of flowers, we ask that if you wish to make a donation in memory of Anne, kindly make it to St Mary’s Anglican Church, Fredericton, or to a charity of your choice.
