Obituary of Blaine Hunter
Blaine Otis Hunter was born in Hayesville, NB in 1932 to Claire and Susan (Boies) Hunter, he passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He graduated from Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1953 and became the head Ranger at Hoyt, until he retired at the age of 55 and started an entirely new career. Blaine started growing Christmas trees before he retired, and went full time in 1987, after retiring from the forestry. Hunters Christmas Tree Farm in Hoyt was his pride and joy and he worked at it until finally retiring in 1999. Blaine was an avid sports fan. He curled (on the winning team for Legion Seniors and represented NB at the nationals on two separate occasions), he played fastball (is in the Sports Wall of Fame), golfed (got a hole in one), fished (loved going with his brothers and grandsons), and he enjoyed watching teams from the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs to his grandsons, granddaughters and great grandson’s teams.
Blaine is survived by his wife, Wendy (Phillips) Hunter; daughters, Wanda Rees (Paul) and Debbie Hunter (Brian Whitehead); step daughter, Kristin Yarych; step son, Kirk Whittaker (Amy); granddaughters, Stephanie Sugg (Dwayne) and Amie Caverhill (Bruce); grandsons, Zack Wiggins, Cody Wiggins and Matthew Richard; step granddaughter, Faith Yarych; step grandsons, Matthew Burgoyne, Thomas Whittaker; great granddaughter, Emma Caverhill; great grandson, Brayden Sugg; sisters, Doris Doak and Bessie Spencer (Dell); brothers, Garth (Bernice), Bertie, Percy and Stan Hunter (Joy).
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2 pm with Pastor Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will take place in Boiestown United Church Cemetery at a later date.
