Obituary of Marshall Smith
The passing of Marshall “Smitty” Smith of Fredericton, NB occurred peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Veterans Health Unit. Marshall was born on October 5, 1921 in Cape Spear, NB, he moved to Port Elgin, NB where he spent his youth. Marshall was a Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Elite Unit of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion. After the war he worked at Tom Boyd’s and retired from ADR Menswear, where he was known as an exceptional clothing salesman. He was an avid brook fisherman, loved playing cards with his friends, fastball and had a great appreciation for local sports
Marshall is survived by his partner, Helen MacSwain; daughter, Donna Wheaton of Fredericton, NB; sons, Dale Smith of Harvey, NB and Terry Smith (Anne) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Kim Embleton (Mark), Mark Wheaton (Jennifer), Todd Smith (Kelly), Sean Smith (Linda), Kerri Smith (James) and Greg Smith (Natasha); numerous great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson Andrew Smith.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 6-8 pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. The members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 are asked to assemble at York Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 5:45 pm for a Legion Tribute Service. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2 pm with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating.
