Obituary of Barbara Clowater

It is with sadness, yet a sense of relief, the family of Barbara Isobel Clowater of Fredericton, NB, announces her death on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at York Care Centre. She reached the age of 104; however, her quality of life had declined during the last few years. Barbara was born on December 23, 1912 in Archibald Settlement, NB. She was the daughter of the late Alpheaus and Mary (Archibald) Winton. Barbara lived most of her life in Jacquet River on the beautiful Bay of Chaleur. Barbara along with her late husband, Weldon moved to Fredericton in 1999 to be closer to family. Barbara was formerly a member of Eastern Star, Chaleur Chapter #17 in Dalhousie, NB and later became a member of the Devon Chapter of Fredericton in 2000. She was a member of Bethel United Church and a life member of the United Church Women. She was a beautiful seamstress, a wonderful cook, avid reader and immaculate housekeeper, until her eye sight diminished. Barbara is survived by her sons, Donald Clowater (Rev. Kay) of Douglas, NB and Wayne Clowater (Patricia) of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Stephanie Clowater of Fredericton, NB, Stacey Schmidt (Mark) of Halifax, NS, Sarah Clowater (Jordan) of Ottawa, ON and Stephen Clowater (Tasha) of Halifax, NS, Krystyna, Colin and Justin Clowater all of Edmonton, AB; brother, Robert Winton (Rhoda); several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband Weldon, sister, Muriel McNair, brothers, John and Douglas Winton and grandson Matthew Clowater. We would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara’s personal home care workers who provided such excellent care which allowed her to remain in her own home until she was 102. We would also like to thank the staff at York Care Center for their care and support. There will be a gathering of friends and family at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, December 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 followed by prayers/scripture led by Rev. Ellen Bearisto. Interment will take place at New Mills United Church Cemetery, New Mills, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
