Obituary of Reginald Porter

The passing of Reginald “Reg” Benedict Porter of Fredericton, NB, husband of Lois (Underhill) Porter occurred on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Pine Grove Nursing Home. Born on March 27, 1933 in Blissfield, NB, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Bowes) Porter. In addition to his wife, Reg is survived by his sons, Kevin Porter (Bernadine) of Fredericton, NB and Tony Porter (Jill) of Miramichi, NB; grandchildren, Corey, Nicholas, Michael, and Gregory Porter; great grandchildren, Dax and Kennedy Porter; sisters, Marie Costello and Noreen Porter; brother, Robert Porter; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Porter. Reg worked for the Government of Canada for 35 years, in finance and administration, spending most of that time in management positions with Employment and Immigration Canada in Moncton and Fredericton. After retiring from the government in 1991, he joined Hawkins Real Estate as a broker where he enjoyed serving clients and helping them buy or sell their homes until 2004. Over the years, he volunteered as a scout leader and participated on various church committees. His priority and his true pleasure was his family. In his retirement years, he and Lois spent most of their time following the sports and activities of their four grandsons. They made many friends around the province as they travelled between hockey arenas, gymnasiums, baseball and soccer fields. It was common for them to walk into a rink in a remote village somewhere in New Brunswick and be warmly greeted by folks they had met a few times over the years watching minor hockey. Reg enjoyed these interactions immensely. His family offers their deepest gratitude to the staff of Pine Grove Nursing home for their care and compassion over the past three years. He made many friends there. Their sincere appreciation also goes to Drs. Pniak, Collins, and Varty. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Dunstan’s Church on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 12:05 pm with Rev. Bill Brennan as celebrant. Interment will take place in Hermitage Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Pine Grove Nursing Home or the Parkinson’s Society – Maritime Region. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
