Life Legacy
The passing of (Retired) Sgt. John Marvin King of Fredericton, NB, husband of Bette (Logan) King occurred on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 26, 1930 in Kingsclear, NB, he was the son of the late Norman and Evelyn (Myshral) King. John was a well known police officer, who had 35 years of dedicated service with the Fredericton Police Force. He was well respected by his peers and was a prominent figure within the Fredericton community. The biggest fear for kids in his day was being sent home to their parents. He served three years with an artillery reserve unit. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Retirees of the Fredericton Police Force and was a former member of the Fredericton Elks Club. He enjoyed playing hockey and was a member of Oldtimers Hockey League.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Susan Banks of Lincoln, NB and Janet Taylor of Lethbridge, AB; step daughters, Meridee Craft of Fredericton, NB and Kelly Lively of Calgary, AB; step sons, John Craft (Barb) of Burton, BC and Stuart Craft of Wainfleet, ON; grandchildren, Dustin, Jeffrey, Tyler and Jacqueline; step grandchildren, Eryn and Taylyr; great grandchildren, Carissa, Kayla, Ireland, Abigail, Weston, Elijah, Rosalie, Samuel and Shaylyn; step great grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Kate, Katelyn and Stephanie; sister, Debbie Gibson of Toronto, ON; brother, Bob King (Marilee) of Kelowna, BC, Arthur Gibson (Sharon) and Paul Gibson (Joanne) both of Fredericton, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Glenna (Sullivan) King; daughter, Judith Towns and sister, Barb Kelly.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:45 pm for a Legion Tribute Service. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church, Fredericton, NB on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 12:05 with Rev. Bill Brennan as celebrant. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery “Field of Honour”. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, the Fredericton SPCA or the charity of the donor’s choice.
