With great sadness we announce the passing of Jack Reuben Rutledge, husband of the late Mera Edna Gladys (Ward) Rutledge on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 6, 1928 in Doaktown, NB, he was the son of the late Clifford and Gretta (Holmes) Rutledge. Jack is survived by his daughter, Judith (Rutledge) Davis; granddaughter, Robin Davis. Besides his parents and wife, Jack was predeceased by his son, Gordon Allison; sister, Alice; brother, Floyd Rutledge. W.0. Jack Rutledge served his country for 28 years. He joined the North Shore NB Regiment in 1943 and then the army in 1957 and retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1978. A proud member of the RCEME Corps, he retained his membership in the RCEME ASSN LAD 201 until his death. Jack was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23 for 22 years; he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps Association (Atlantic). Following his military career, he began a second career as maintenance manager at Ivers-Lee of Brampton, ON where he retired at 65 prior to his return home to New Brunswick. Jack was an avid gardener, often providing vegetables to his neighbours. His grounds hosted the Fredericton garden tours on several occasions. Jack will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all of his four legged friends of the neighbourhood. A Private Memorial Service will take place with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Brian Carroll and Alan Cudmore of RCEME ASSN LAD 201. Honorary Pallbearers will be Horatio Murray, Joseph D’Costa, Robert MacKenzie, George Henwood, Lawrence McGuire and Ken Pitcher.
