Obituary of Marion Nicholson

Marion Elizabeth Nicholson (nee Jones), age 86, of Fredericton, NB passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born on September 27, 1929 in Chatham, NB, daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Green) Jones. After moving to Fredericton with her loving husband, John, she stayed at home to raise her three children. As an active member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, she joined the choir and the UCW. Marion also enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking. After being a stay at home mother of her three children, Marion went back to school at the age of 40 for two years, graduating with a Certificate from the NB Business College. She then worked for J.W. Bird for two years, and then as a Secretary for the Education Department at the DECRH from 1974 to 1984, retiring to spend time with her family. Marion is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Nicholson; her children, Julie Reissner (Len), Debbie Gesner (Garret) and John Nicholson (Pam Wood) all from the Fredericton area; grandchildren, Ian Reissner of Kelowna, BC, Marcia Gosselin (Peter) of Fredericton, NB, Jamie Reissner (Meghan) of Fredericton, NB, Andrea Gesner (Michael Blanchard) of Vancouver, BC, Emily Johnson (George) of Calgary, AB and Heather Gesner of Vancouver, BC; nine great grandchildren; brother, Robert Jones (Ethel); several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Ottie and Richard; sister, Gertrude Brunette; nephew, Richard Carruthers and niece, Janet Kowalenko. There will be no visitation by request of the family; a Memorial Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church, 46 Main Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2 pm with Rev. J. D. Kennedy officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi, NB on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 11 am.
