Obituary of Robert Jeffries
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bob Jeffries at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 7, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Bob was born on August 17, 1946 and raised in Bracebridge, ON. It was there at the young age of 15 where he met the love of his life, Muriel Beavan. In their course of over 50 years together they had three children, Tracy (Serge), Robert and Nick (Leanne); nine grandchildren, Robyn, Whitney, Tara, Alex, Kendra, Emily, Tyler, Robert Jr., Erin and more recently three great-children who put a smile on his face daily, Allie, Harper and Hudson. In addition to his immediate family, Bob is survived by his brother, Jim; three sisters, Mary, Barb and Ann; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Sadie; as well as his brother, Jack.
Commonly referred to as “Mr. J,” Bob is well-known in the community for his over 25 year ownership of Jeffries Irving Convenience. He was affectionately known as a father-figure to those who worked for and with him due to his never-ending supply of guidance, support and advice. Bob and Muriel were avid horse-lovers and spent many years at their hobby-farm in Scotchlake, NB learning the ropes of farming from their great neighbour and friend Danny Burnett. During this time Bob also enjoyed gardening, the annual “unsuccessful” deer hunt, and puttering around on his John Deere snow-blowing the neighbourhood driveways. A talented woodworker, Bob spent many hours out in the garage with his sons building beautiful pieces of furniture. In more recent years you could often find him working around their home in Hanwell, sitting by the fishpond enjoying a Diet Coke, cooking and baking homemade bread.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. However family and friends are invited to the family home, 89 Menzies Drive, Hanwell, NB to celebrate Bob’s life on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5:30-8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
