Obituary of Mary MacLaggan
On Sunday, July 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Mary Edith (Cawthra) MacLaggan went home to be with her Saviour.
Mary was born on December 22, 1929 to parents Jack and Hilda (Lambert) Cawthra of Marysville. She graduated from Fredericton High School and went on to work as a Secretary at City Sales & Services for over 20 years. She met and fell in love with Donald T. MacLaggan and they were married on June 28, 1949. They celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage together. Early on, they enjoyed spending their free time trailoring with friends and family across the country. Many special memories were also made spending a number of winters in Florida and their summers at "the cottage" on Grand Lake.
Mary had a kind, yet spunky spirit that could put anyone at ease. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, accepted, and loved with her quick smile and twinkle in her eye. You never left her house without feeling full--either of food or love. It was often said that was the secret ingredient that made her "Family Sunday Dinners" so famous. Mary loved to laugh and enjoyed doing this with her family, neighbours, and friends. She enjoyed gardening and was a long time member of Devon Park Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald T. MacLaggan; sisters, Dot (Ab) Miles of Fredericton, NB and Edna Murray of BC; two sons, David (Sharon) MacLaggan of Fredericton, NB and Peter (Kim) MacLaggan of Riverview, NB; eight grandchildren, Tedford (Marla) MacLaggan of Halifax, NS, Timothy (Frances) MacLaggan of Moncton, NB, Marylee MacLaggan of Moncton, NB, Laura MacLaggan of Riverview, NB, Colin MacLaggan of Riverview, NB, David Andrew (Angela) MacLaggan of Edmonton, AB, Jeffrey (Natalie) MacLaggan of Fredericton, NB and Sarah (MacLaggan) Dillman of Saint John, NB; several great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant grandson, Ryan MacLaggan and sister, Jo Anne Harris.
